DARIN YOUNG- Team Rush Assistant Coach

Coaching the game of basketball and playing the game of basketball is Coach Darrin Young’s passion. Young feels his knowledge of the game has continuously increased as he has learned so much from the coaches and mentors that he has had throughout the course of his life. 

Young is a Saint Louis native and he attended both Saint Louis University High School where he earned three varsity letters. In 2009, he transferred to Kirkwood High School and that same year, led his team to a District Championship. He was also voted District MVP and led the entire Saint Louis Area in assists per game.

After graduation, Young attended Saint Louis University and played for the late Coach Rick Majerus. After Saint Louis University, he transferred to Maryville University and was the starting point guard for three years. While still playing at Maryville University, Young was an assistant basketball coach for the Saint Louis Eagles, now known as Bradley Beal Elite. Young also served as the head middle school basketball coach at Whitfield Academy. He organized multiple basketball summer camps throughout the entire St. Louis area and also worked as a counselor for several summer college basketball camps.

After relocating to the Kansas City Area, Young served as a math teacher at Hogan Prep and was the assistant coach for the varsity basketball team. While on staff, Young’s role were primarily individual skill development, opponent scouting and weight lifting coordinator. His past two years on staff, both teams have had 20 win seasons and this past season the team finished third in the state.

Young believes playing at such an elite level throughout the course of his career has equipped him with the knowledge and has enhanced his ability to teach the game of basketball to rising stars. He loves teaching players of all age groups the essential skills, and personal development tools that are necessary to excel in life and the game of basketball. Utilizing an assortment of drills to enhance his students’ knowledge and fundamental skills of the game that can carry over to life, consequently, enhancing their abilities as a player and person.
